Episodes are Delayed or Missing

Delayed Episodes

Castro uses central servers to regularly refresh all podcast feeds. When the server finds a episode, it is sent to the app. This means that the app on your phone doesn’t waste any battery or network resources polling podcast feeds for new episodes.

Servers have an ongoing cost, however, so popular podcasts are prioritized above podcasts with only a few subscribers. Private feeds like paid patreon feeds or Huffduffer feeds that have very few subscribers will arrive more slowly.

  • We schedule feeds that have 10 or more subscribers every fifteen minutes.
  • 2-10 subscriber feeds are scheduled every two hours.
  • 1 subscriber feeds are scheduled every four hours.

Our server employs complex queue-management to ensure that popular feeds are refreshed above the rest during busy periods, so these intervals are offered as a rough guide, not a guarantee. If your episodes are delayed or missing well beyond these intervals, please contact us using the “Send Feedback” button in Castro settings. Include the name of the specific podcast and episode. If possible, use a castro.fm share link to identify the exact episode; this will assist us in tracking down the exact episode.

Missing New Episodes

If an episode hasn’t appeared for more than a day, and you’re certain that it is available from the podcast feed (i.e. it appears in another app), it is possible that there is a problem with our refreshing. This is rare, but if it does happen, please contact us using the “Send Feedback” button in Castro settings. Include the podcast name and the details of the missing episode and we will investigate.

Missing Old Episodes

Some podcasts remove old episodes from their feeds. Castro respects the decision of the feed host to remove these episodes, so if they’re not in the feed, they won’t appear in Castro. If you believe that Castro isn’t showing an episode that it should be then please contact us by going to Castro Settings -> Support -> Email Support. Please include the podcast name and the details of the missing episode and we will investigate.
